The Internal Revenue Service campus in Andover is located at 310 Lowell Street.

The following is a timeline of events that took place at this location:

  • In 2006, the IRS announced that 900 jobs would be cut at the Andover location by 2009 as the result of an increase in electronic form submission.
  • In 2007, it was announced that closer to 2,000 of the employees at the facility who handle paper returns would be let go by 2009 due to increases in e-filing.
  • In 2009, the Andover IRS center stated that they would no longer process returns after September of that year.
  • In early 2009, Representative Niki Tsongas and 13 other members of congress asked that the IRS layoffs in Massachusetts be delayed until 2012.
  • In March of 2009, it was announced that 200 jobs would be moved to the Andover facility to slightly offset the layoffs that would be taking place.

In 2007, the Andover IRS facility held an annual Toys for Tots campaign and raised just under $42,000 and collected 4,100 toys from employees to be given to local children.

In April of 2009, the facility was awarded $117 million in stimulus funds to invest in solar panel technology and other green building additions.
