Pierce, Benjamin (son of President Franklin Pierce)

Franklin Pierce visited the Central Street Andover home of his sister-in-law frequently. It was leaving such a visit, on January, 6, 1853 that his sonBenjamin was killed when the train the family was riding in toppled down a hill after leaving Shawsheen Village Station. The family was headed to Concord New Hampshire where the President-elect planned to remain until his inauguration as the fourteenth president. Benjamin was twelve years old.
