Temple Emmanuel was founded in Lawrence, Mass in 1920 at the corner of Lowell and Milton Streets. [1] [2] A new temple was built in Lawrence's Tower Hill neighborhood in 1955. [3] In January of 1979, the congregation was granted a construction permit for a new property on Hagget's Pond Road in Andover. In November 1979, the congregation's Torah was hand carried by relay runners to a new house of worship in Andover. [4] The new temple opened Friday November 22, 1979 and was formally dedicated on May 16, 1990. [5] [6] In 1980, The Nursery School at Temple Emanuel opened for children ages 2 years 9 months to 4 years 11 months. [7] In 1990, The Nursery School at Temple Emanual began offering a kindergarten. [8] In 1998, Temple Emmanual dedicated a new chapel and education wing. [9]

Rabbi Robert Goldstein of Temple Emanuel was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Service Award in 2004.
