The first Bancroft School building was built in 1968 on Bancroft Rd. [1] The school, an innovative, award-winning open-concept design by the architect William D. Warner of Providence, Rhode Island opened in 1970. Earl E. Simon was the first principal. [2]
In January 2011, at a Special Town Meeting, voters approved a $44 million proposal for a school renovation project.[3]
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held in October 2012.[4]
In February 2013, a Special Town Meeting was held to approve an additional $5.7 million to complete the Bancroft School construction project.[5]
In October 2014, students, parents, school and town leaders, and state officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally open the new Bancroft School.[6]
