The congregation of Faith Lutheran Church began meeting in the basement of the former Pike school building on Sunset Road and then in Peabody House on the campus of Phillips Academy around 1963. Faith Lutheran Church became a formal, distinct body of the Lutheran Church of America on Sunday December 1, 1963. [1] The congregation purchased a parcel of land on the corner of Main Street and Wildwood Road in 1964. In 1966, the congregation announced a $300,000 plan for their 4.5 acre site in a contemporary colonial style. [2] Ground was broken for the construction project in January of 1967. [3] The church was dedicated in August of that same year. [4]
At a sunrise Easter Service in 1965, Christ Church Rector, J. Edison Pike presented the Faith Lutheran congregation with a foundation stone from his church. [5] [6]
Faith Lutheran dedicated a building addition on Sunday, September 30, 2012. [7] The church opened in January, 1967 and was dedicated in September of that year. [8] The church was designed by the architecture firm Royal Barry Wills and the blueprints for the structure are digitized and held in the Historic New England Digital Collections. [9]
