(Not to be confused with Shawsheen School in neighboring Wilmington, Massachusetts) The Shawsheen School is located at 18 Ann's Lane in Andover on land donated from William Wood, President of American Woolen Company.
The school opened in 1924 as a Kindergarten through 5th grade elementary school. The school ceased to operate for a short time beginning in 1980 when it served as school administration offices. The school administration offices moved out of the Shawsheen building and into the former East Junior High School facilities in late 1983.
In 1994, referred to as Shawsheen Integrated Primary School. [1]
On opening in 1924, the Annual School Committee Report referred to it as Shawsheen Village School.
In September of 1984, the Early Childhood Center at Shawsheen School opened as a central kindergarten and preschool for the district. In the 1989 -1990 Annual School Report, Early Childhood Center at Shawsheen was referenced as being it its "sixth year" of operating "Andover's central kindergarten program." [2]
The 1994 Andover Town Report refers to Shawsheen Integrated Primary Magnet School. [3]
