- Merrimack Junior Theatre was started by West Elementary School music teacher Josie Walker in 1989.
- Although it was successful, Josie Walker wanted to start a new life as a grandmother and decided to close the organization in 2011.
- Merrimack Junior Theatre costumes and sets were given to
Andover Youth Services.
- 3 former Merrimack Junior Theatre board members decided, along with Andover Youth Services, to revive it in 2012 and rename it AYS Andover Theatre Works!
- A contest to create a new logo was announced in 2012.
