A service station was built on a parcel of land that would become part of the Andover by-pass in the mid 1920s at the corner of Salem Street. <ref> Brutality of slaying stuns all Andover, The Andover Townsman, October 1, 1964, p.1. </ref> In late September 1964, the Texaco operator at the time, Irvin Hilton, was murdered in front of witnesses at the station.  Mattapan reisdent and previously convicted murderer George Nassar was convicted of killing Mr. Hilton.
