- John Simko was searching for a place to start his own optical business when he took a Sunday drive down Main Street in Andover in 1975. He thought the town looked nice and decided to try to find a rental property.
- He found a location on 36 Main Street where Billing Jewelers had gone out of business and started Andover Optical with his wife Carolyn.
- In 1987 he moved 2 doors down to 42 Main Street, gaining more space in a swap with the Christian Science Meeting Room.
- In 1988 his daughter Jennifer joined him in the business.
