The Andover Historical Society and the Andover Historic Commission began the historic marker program in 1990. Historic markers are generally displayed only on old homes. However, the Andover Historical Society and the Historic Commission has sold them to residents of newer homes. Some of the funds raised were used for the celebration of the town's 350th anniversary in 1996.
