Enoch Poor was born in Andover in 1836. While living in Andover he was a cabinet maker until 1755 when he volunteered to fight in the French and Indian War. After his service ended he returned to Andover, but moved to Exeter, New Hampsire in 1760. When the American Revolution war began he became a colonel in the Exeter militia, which was incorporated into the Continental Army. After fighting in several battles he was named Brigadier General in 1777. He died suddenly in 1780 of a fever - probably Typhus. Later rumors attributed his death to a duel.
