On Monday, December 11, 1995 a fire destroyed 3 builings in the Malden Mills textile plant in Lawrence. A fourth building was not destroyed. This building allowed the owner Aaron Feuerstein, to rebuild.
The salary of the 3000 employees was paid for three months through the rebuilding process - December, January, and February of 1996. By March most employees had returned to work. However, in the years following other fabrics replaced Polartec, the main product of Malden Mills, and the Mills went bankrupt.
