Andover resident Kathe Tuttman, a prosecutor in the Essex County District Attorney's Office, became a Superior Court Judge in May of 2006 an appointee of Governor Romney. In November of 2007, Governor Romney called for her to resign after she freed Daniel Tavares Jr. on his own recognizance. While serving a 16 year sentence for manslaughter for killing his mother, Tavares assaulted two prison guards. The Worcester District Attorney wanted Tavares held on $50,000 bail for the assault after he served his time. Judge Tuttman reversed this decision and set Taveares free without a monitoring device.
