Earthquakes were first recorded in Andover in 1638 (prior to settlement) and 1663. The 1663 quake was felt from Canada to Mexico and caused a lot of damage. Another quake was felt on October 29, 1727. Days of prayer ensued. Other earthquakes have been felt in Andover. Of note is the one in 1755, which was described as very severe. Other big quakes happened in 1940 and 1963.
