In 1934, the original 1871 Punchard building at 36 Bartlet Street was demolished, and in its place, the Memorial Auditorium, gymnasium, and the Andover Junior High wing were constructed.

In 1968, the new Andover High School opened on Shawsheen Road, prompting the town to establish two junior high schools. The former high school became Andover West Junior High School, while the Bartlet Street building was renamed Andover East Junior High School.
