In January, 1958, a Lawrence property developer, Albert Schlott, purchased 15 acres south of Shawsheen Village and north of Elm Square to be developed as a shopping center. [1] The site was previously known as Golden Farm although Mr. Schlott purchased additional acreage beyond the Golden Farm property for his shopping center plans. [2] In June, 1958, it was announced that Elm Farm, a 40-store grocery chain would build the shopping center on the Schlott property. [3]
