Beginning in 1989, due to overcrowding in schools, the town began to investigate the construction of new school buildings.[1]

In 1999, a final site plan for a new elementary and middle school complex at Cross Street and High Plan Road was finalized. The project was estimated to cost $31 million.[2]

At the 2002 Town Meeting, voters approved an additional $350,000 for the construction project.[3]

In September of 2002, Wood Hill Middle School opened.[4]
