In 1934, the original 1871 Punchard building at 36 Bartlet Street was demolished, and in its place, the Memorial Auditorium, gymnasium, and the Andover Junior High wing were constructed.

With the opening of a new Andover High School on Shawsheen Road (now West Middle School), the entire Bartlet Street building was repurposed as Andover Junior High School.

In 1968, the current Andover High School opened on Shawsheen Road, prompting the town to establish two junior high schools. The former high school became West Junior High, while the Bartlet Street building was renamed East Junior High.[1]
